Residents of 6th Congressional District Demand Congressman Upton Hold a Town Hall
Saturday marked 3,150 days since Upton last held a town hall to hear concerns of those he represents
BERRIEN SPRINGS — Residents of the 6th Congressional District protested Congressman Upton today outside a forum Upton attended that was closed to the public. They showed up to mark the 3,152nd day since Congressman Upton last held a town hall.
“My husband has a pre-existing condition and I’d like to ask Congressman Upton why he sided with the insurance companies instead of us when he revived the repeal of health care last year,” said Kim Jorgensen Gane, from St. Joseph. “I used to support Fred but holding zero town halls in nearly ten years and making it harder for my husband to get the care he needs is proof he doesn’t deserve to represent us any longer.”
Concerned citizens held signs and attempted to ask Upton to hold a town hall where they can ask questions about his support for repealing health care and the Republican tax scam that has benefited the wealthy instead of people in his district.
“The last time Fred Upton held a town hall, Miley Cyrus was Hannah Montana, the Winter Olympics were taking place in Vancouver and Tik Tok by Ke$ha was the number one song in America,” said Hugh Madden, communications director with Progress Michigan. “For nearly a decade, Congressman Upton has failed to give his constituents a voice, but they are speaking now and will speak even louder on Election Day.”
