Another Term Without a Town Hall Hosted by Fred Upton
No town hall since 2010 shows Upton’s failure to represent his constituents
KALAMAZOO — Michigan Families for Economic Prosperity is highlighting the fact that another term is nearing its end and Congressman Fred Upton has once again failed to hold a single town hall. Upton last held a town hall in 2010, leaving his constituents without a forum to ask questions, raise issues or simply hear from their member of Congress.
“As a former member of Congress who held town halls, had an open door policy at my office and actively sought out differing opinions, I am dismayed at Congressman Upton’s failure to hold a single town hall in nearly a decade,” said Mark Schauer, former member of Congress and a constituent in the 6th Congressional district. “Town halls are an American tradition that not only hold elected officials accountable, but also connect our communities around our shared values. Upton’s failure to bring us together is a loss for the entire district.”
The last time Fred Upton held a town hall, Tik Tok by Ke$ha was the number one song in America, The Hurt Locker won the Academy award for best film and the Kalamazoo River had not yet been polluted by the Enbridge oil spill.
“This is not the same Fred Upton I used to know,” Schauer continued. “Communicating, and more importantly listening, to your constituents is the most important part of having the honor to serve in Congress. If Congressman Upton has lost his passion to represent us, the voters should send a message on Tuesday and elect someone who will put people before politics.”
