Advocates Launch “Michigan Families for Economic Prosperity” Coalition to Hold U.S. Reps Bishop, Upton Accountable
Tax and Health Care Advocates Announce Campaign to Defend Michigan Working Families
LANSING, MI — Today, in response to continuous attacks on working families across Michigan, a coalition of organizations have launched “Michigan Families for Economic Prosperity.” The campaign aims to unite advocates from across the state to hold Representatives Mike Bishop and Fred Upton accountable for their votes on the GOP tax bill and attempts to gut Michiganders’ health care.
Michigan Families for Economic Prosperity will educate residents on Republicans’ attacks on our financial security and health care. The campaign’s seven-figure budget will include grassroots organizing, and paid advertising to educate constituents on Representatives Bishop and Upton votes against the middle-class.
In just the past year, both lawmakers have voted to sabotage health care and to raise taxes for thousands of Michigan families. Instead of offering the middle-class tax breaks or protecting access to affordable health care, Bishop and Upton voted to give Michigan’s richest one percent an average tax cut of $57,700 and rip health care away from thousands of Michigan families.
“Together with partners like Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan and Michigan United, we are sending a message to lawmakers that they cannot take their constituents for granted,” said Lonnie Scott, Executive Director of Progress Michigan. “Representatives Bishop and Upton have revealed that their priority is with the wealthy elite — not Michigan’s’ working families. Our coalition will lift up the voices of Michiganders who have been crying out for months against these harmful policies.”
Michigan Families for Economic Prosperity will launch with a series of digital ads this week targeting the lawmakers’ direct attacks on Michigan residents’ access to health care.
