Constituents of Fred Upton ask ‘Where Have You Been,’ Demand First Town Hall in Nearly a Decade
Voters in Sixth Congressional District deserve to hear from Upton on health care, taxes before election
KALAMAZOO — Citizens of the Sixth Congressional District are demanding Congressman Fred Upton hold a town hall to tell talk to them about his record on health care repeal and tax breaks for the wealthy prior to the election. Upton, who has been in Washington for over 30 years, has not held a town hall since February 4, 2010.
“It’s been over eight years since Congressman Upton has faced his constituents to take questions, explain his positions or listen to our concerns,” said Becky Baldwin of Portage. “The Congressman shouldn’t need a reminder that he works for us, not those who fund his campaigns.”
Congressman Upton was instrumental in reviving a vote to repeal health care that put the care of millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions at risk. Upton also voted for the Republican tax plan that gave massive tax breaks to corporations at the expense of the people of his district. The citizens demanding a town hall are asking Upton to hold a town hall by Friday, October 5th before he reached 3,150 days since his last constituent town hall.
“Congressman Upton has voted with Donald Trump 95% of the time, yet he has devoted zero time to meet with us in district,” said Bill Farmer, from Scotts. “Congressman Upton has changed because he’s forgotten about the people he represents. His failure to hear directly from his constituents is proof that he cares more about Washington insiders than Southwest Michigan families.”
